My 10 Minutes of Fame at Stoked Spoke!
Wow, what a night... Swift Industries in Seattle coordinated a fabulous event yesterday evening, and I was so glad to be a part of it. "I used to perform," I tell the crowd, grinning into the microphone, "but now I do more writing. It's unusual that I get to see the faces of my audience. So thank you for having me tonight, this is a treat!"
Oh, how I love public speaking. It brings out the stage ham in me... cracking jokes and dancing around, having more fun than anyone else present. I've never been an adrenaline junkie, but those pre-performance butterflies are my preferred kind of stress.
The dry mouth, nervous sweats , and excited giggles... I could do this for a living. Mark my words, one day giving inspiring speeches will be my livelihood. I'm working on it. :)
I was among three other presenters, each of us giving a ten-minute Power Point presentation on a bicycle route we'd done. The other three speakers were male, and much stronger (and more hardcore) cyclists than me. But what I lacked in athleticism, I made up for in humor. And the audience of Patagonia-clad thirty-something-year-olds with overpriced beers in their hands laughed appreciatively. What a willing, enthusiastic, wonderful crowd. I will have to keep bike touring, simply because I want to present at another Stoked Spoke Adventure Series!
And I'll be in the audience at the next one: March 28, 2018. If you're in Seattle and interested in bike touring, be there!
